Shiatsu

指圧

 

The word shiatsu means 'finger pressure' in Japanese. Shiatsu was developed in Japan and incorporates techniques of anma (Japanese traditional massage), acupressure and stretching. The practice uses comfortable pressure, touch and manipulative techniques.

Zen Shiatsu

 

Zen Shiatsu is the name of the style developed by Shizuto Masunaga (1925-1981). He named his style IOKAI (King) Shiatsu. Masunaga believed Shiatsu was the King of bodywork due to its deep, comfortable penetration, balancing and detoxifying effects. The Western publishers of his book, 1977, renamed it Zen. Zen Shiatsu goes directly to the core of the receiver's present condition via its subtle diagnostic system. The use of a stationary, listening hand guiding the penetrating, working hand makes for great sensitivity and effectiveness.
